My little brother, who was a not-quite-30-year-old bachelor at the time, took care of it all and then drove down to the hospital, where he stayed all night in my room, waiting on the arrival of his nephew. He was there to help manage the large family that began arriving in the morning. I don't remember, but suspect that he was given the duty to go back to our house to let our dogs out and feed them in the morning. He was there when the doctor told me that I needed to have a C-Section right away. And he was one of the first to lay eyes on our little guy.

Today, my brother and sister-in-law became parents. In those nine years since our first was born, we have moved to Florida and they have moved to Chicago, and as such, he didn't have me sleeping in the hospital room, didn't have a crazy family contingent waiting to meet the baby the moment they were allowed in, didn't have that love immediately surrounding him.
So today, I am sending him this overwhelming love the best way I can-- through my words. I know I am not the only one-- he has love coming from all over the country, so excited for their new family.
Congratulations to you, dearest brother, to my amazing sister-in-law, and to that beautiful little girl you two created!! We are with you in spirit, if not in body, and we are just so incredibly happy for you and this blessing of a first child!
Happy Mother's Day to all!!
